After falling out of its NCAA Regional to Wright State, head coach Tim Corbin and his staff will now have to tackle another beast: the transfer portal. In this age of college baseball — and college athletics more generally — no player is a guarantee to retain. However, this can also be a positive for programs as they have plenty of options to refresh and renew a team.
While Corbin has been resistant in the past to utilizing the transfer portal — primarily relying on the development of his freshman — this might be the year where he takes advantage of the range of heavy hitters and big arms out there.
Jonathan Vastine, Ryan Ginther and Jacob Humphrey are all out of eligibility while RJ Austin, JD Thompson, Cody Bowker and Sawyer Hawks are top MLB draft prospects. This means Corbin will likely need to bring in a range of players to fill these gaps.
